Biography
Double bass player and composer Andrea Di Biase studied Classical Double Bass at the Conservatory of Milan. He then graduated with distinction at Guildhall School of Music in London.
Together with pianist Liam Noble, Andrea was part of the last trio of the legendary trumpet player and composer Kenny Wheeler .
He is leader of the Oltremare Quartet with the renowned Italian pianist Antonio Zambrini, the saxophonist Mike Chillingworth and the drummer Jon Scott. With them he recorded his first album Uncommon Nonsense as a composer.
He is co-leader of the band Escape Hatch with pianist Ivo Neame, with whom he recorded the album Roots of Unity for Whirlwind recordings, featuring saxophone giant Julian Arguelles.
He has a longstanding collaboration with pianist Bruno Heinen with whom he recorded on many albums, the last of which is Portrait alongside Heidi Vogel and Gene Calderazzo.
He is a co-leader of Dugong with whom in 2022 he released their third album Let the Good be Good

Il contrabbassista e compositore Andrea Di Biase ha studiato contrabbasso classico presso il Conservatorio di Milano. Ha poi frequentato il Master in jazz alla Guildhall School of Music and Drama di Londra, diplomandosi con distinzione di merito sotto la guida di maestri quali John Taylor, Rufus Reid e Chris Laurence.
Ha fatto poi parte, insieme al pianista Liam Noble, del trio del leggendario trombettista Kenny Wheeler .
Nel 2009 ha registrato il suo primo album da leader e compositore con il quartetto Oltremare con Antonio Zambrini al piano e i musicisti inglesi Jon Scott alla batteria e Mike Chillingworth ai sax.
L’album Uncommon Nonsense è stato pubblicato nel 2011 dall’etichetta inglese Babel.

Andrea poi pubblicato l’album del suo progetto Escape Hatch Roots of Unity per la prestigiosa etichetta Whirlwind Recordings, disco che annovera il grandissimo sassofonista inglese Julian Arguelles.

Andrea collabora da lungo tempo con il pianista inglese Bruno Heinen con cui ha registrato in molti album, ultimo dei quali Portrait con la cantante Heidi Vogel (vocalist della Cinematic Orchestra) e il batterista americano Gene Calderazzo (parte del gruppo di Pharoah Sanders).
